First Post of 2012!

And I am pleased to report that 2012 has been just fine so far, haha!

We celebrated New Year's Day yesterday morning by cutting our vasilopita after breakfast. The kids were very excited about it, but then Nikos got mad that his designated slice didn't have a number "2" on it in red icing. I actually got out the red icing and put one on there for him, but it wasn't enough. He had a bite or two and declared that he was done. Meanwhile, Maya finished her piece, and then took care of his, too! The girl loved her vasilopita!

After the kids were served, Gus was cutting his designated slice in half when the knife landed right on the gold coin (wrapped in foil). It looks like Gus is going to have an especially good year! And that is great, considering he is our sole provider now. A little extra luck never hurt anyone!

Once we were done with cake-eating (and subsequent vacuuming around Maya), we got dressed and hit the road. We went to the home improvement store, and bought all sorts of things (replacement breakers for the electrical panel, cabinet pulls for the kitchen, paint samples, etc.). Then we decided to go furniture shopping. The thing about having a house three times bigger than our old one is that we literally have empty rooms right now. At this point, we're looking for sitting room and guest room furniture, but we also need office furniture. And I'm really wanting to get Nikos a real twin bed for his room. So that's a lot of furniture! And we're trying to save money, too. So yesterday's plan was to look and see what's out there, and get an idea for prices. We didn't really see anything we liked, though the kids loved the indoor koi pond at the store, haha! We had to drag them away!

We did make one more stop before heading home, and came away with a new area rug for our bedroom. So we were at least partially successful!

Anyway... today was spent mostly cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. And going to lunch while Gus' truck got new tires. And putting the pulls onto the cabinets. It's weird, but NONE of the kitchen cabinets or drawers had any hardware. No holes for it, even. And they are kind of hard to get a good grip on without them, so it was just silly! At any rate, I am a little over halfway done at this point, and I am loving them. It's the simple things, right??

Tomorrow is a Big Day in the P house, with our big boy starting preschool. He's excited, though he told us at dinner that he doesn't want to make new friends or talk to anyone-- he just wants to play with dinosaurs. I am sure that attitude will change once he's there. In a lot of ways, our boy is a stickler for rules and routines... so I bet he is going to do just fine! I won't lie, though, I am nervous. I feel like it's MY first day of school! So silly!

At any rate, there will be lots of pictures... worry not!
