First Time at the Drive-In!

If it isn't already completely obvious, we went to the drive-in movie theater last night! This was actually something that none of us had ever done. We had talked about it when we lived in California, because there was a drive-in not too far from our house, but it never happened. At any rate, it was really fun! We got there right around 8:00, found a spot (all three screens were packed!!), and the kids played around until it was dark enough for the movie to begin. They thought it was especially fun to stick their heads out the sunroof, haha! The first movie ("Madagascar 3") started around 9:00, and the kids just loved the whole experience! They scarfed popcorn, giggled, talked with us about the funny parts, etc. It was a nice change from a regular theater! This was actually Maya's first theater experience, too, and it was a nice transition before we take her to a "real" theater. I plan to do that soon, since the second-run theater nearby is now playing "The Lorax," based on the Dr. Seuss book that both kids know and love.

Anyway... They both crashed about 2/3 of the way through the movie, which was understandable. The movie didn't even start until an hour and a half after they are normally asleep! Once they conked out, Gus and I carefully moved them back into their carseats. Then we settled in to watch the second feature, "Men in Black 3." We didn't leave the drive-in until close to 1AM, but I am pleased to report that I have seen two first-run movies. That hardly ever happens, haha! It was definitely a fun experience. Well, except the part where our car battery died close to the end. But I guess that's pretty common, because the guy in the projection booth had a portable jump-starter and got us back up and running in a few minutes. Oops! Note to self: Next time, run the engine for a while between the two movies. You have to listen to the movie by tuning into the right frequency on your car radio, and it is a battery sucker. I repeat: Oops!

This morning got off to a great start with both kids sleeping in until almost 9am! A late night at the drive-in will do that to you, I suppose! At any rate, it was weird and wonderful. We all pretty much got up at the same time, and decided to head Sears to look at refrigerators. These are exciting times, people!!! Our current fridge is pretty awful. It's ugly, poorly designed, and inefficient. It has the freezer on the top and the fridge on the bottom, which means we bonk our heads on an almost-daily basis. We knew we would replace it eventually, but there was a good sale that started today. And Gus was just done with the old fridge. So we went, and found one we liked. And then Gus pointed out that the range would look out of place, being the only non-stainless appliance. So we bought a range. And a hood. We got a great deal on everything, too! And a few days ago, I ordered the kit I will be using to paint all our cabinetry white. Our kitchen is about to undergo a MAJOR transformation. I can hardly wait!!! Oooh, and it's a convection oven! Woohoo! The rest of our day was essentially spent just hanging out, playing in the yard and enjoying the gorgeous weather. It was fantastic, and it looks like it will continue for the next two weeks, at least! Woohoo! Gus mowed the grass and worked on his motorcyle while I played with the kids. We did a lot of things, but sidewalk chalk was popular today. Our porch is very well-decorated! We capped off our day by grilling some burgers and eating outside. And then toasting some marshmallows over the fire pit. Then Gus and I sat there until the fire died, watching the crazy kids run around the yard. Finally, they had a quick (but much-needed!) bath and were off to bed. It was a lovely day indeed!
