New Hampshire

"New Hampshire, New Hampshire, I love you, I want to get a race car"

This is the song Maya composed at dinner tonight, haha! Can you guess where we went today?

Really, though, it was very uneventful. We wanted to go to Costco and stock up on meat for our freezer in the basement. And sadly, the nearest Costco is, in fact, in New Hampshire! There are other warehouse stores that are a lot closer, and we will probably look into joining one of them soon, but today, well... we WANTED to go to New Hampshire! Our first trip into another state! It's about an hour away, so we ate an early lunch and headed out.

And, well, it was very anticlimactic! I had envisioned us stopping by the giant "Welcome to New Hampshire" sign so I could get a picture of the kids standing in front of it. Except there was no such sign. Just a small one at the bottom of the freeway offramp that said "Now entering Nashua, NH." And on the other side, it said "Now entering Tyngsboro, MA." That's it. And, like I said, it was at the bottom of the offramp. Sigh. So, no photos. Though I did snap this pretty unimpressive one on the way back, haha!

Really, it's crazy how small the states are here. I guess just about everything is small compared to California! But within an hour, we can be in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. Add another hour or two and we can be in New York. Wild! I am looking forward to some pretty awesome road trips when the kids are older. And this year, I am really hoping we can swing a long weekend in New Hampshire. There's a great amusement park for younger kids up there, and hotels nearby with amazing water parks inside. It sounds so fun!

Anyway, that was the bulk of our day. Once we got home, we had to divide up and package the meat for the freezer... so exciting. We had a light dinner, and it was very weird to be sitting in sunlight at dinner time thanks to the time change. The sun was actually bothering Nikos-- guess we need to buy some more window coverings! It was also relatively warm today, adding to the feeling that spring must be just around the corner. I can't wait!

One final, and completely random, thing. I was going through Nikos' backpack, and discovered a handwriting sheet he had done at preschool on Thursday. On the back, he had doodled this little yellow duck! I was so impressed!! He is certainly capable, and he has a good eye for things, but he doesn't always have the patience or confidence to see his vision through. But it looks like a duck! Go Nikos!! :)
