Greece: Day 4

When we woke up this morning, we knew that we were on our own! Papou has a cousin that lives in the nearby city of Argos, and the plan was for him and his family to come over for lunch (Greek lunch-- which is usually around 2 or 3pm). Yiayia and papou needed to go and get food and other supplies for the lunch, so we were on our own for the morning. There was a playground on the way to Nafplio that the kids had been begging to go to, so we did that. It was actually pretty nice! And one of the safer/more modern playgrounds we'd seen in the area!
Then, since we were so close to Nafplio, we went back. On a whim, we took a boat over to Bourtzi, the prison fortress in the middle of the harbor. It was where the prisoners were sent from the castle of Palamidi, and the executioners lived there, too. Our boat captain dropped us off and gave us twenty minutes to explore... so we did! It's a small place, so that was plenty of time.
Once we got back, we had children who were hot and thirsty. We picked up some chocolate milk from a little shop nearby. And, on the way, took a picture of Nafplio's very own Harvard extension campus. Seriously. Such a random place to have one! But, there it is!
We drove back home, and not a minute too soon! No sooner had we gotten in the door than papou's cousin and his family (his wife, their son, and his wife's brother) showed up on our doorstep (early). We hastily cleaned up our apartment, and had a great lunch! The kids, however, were in "shy" mode and didn't want to socialize. That was sort of a bummer. But that was our day!
