Maiden Voyage!

Introducing: the canoe!!!

We took it out on its maiden voyage this morning, on the biggest lake in town (and yes-- we have many lakes to choose from, all within ten minutes of our house. We live in sort of a boating mecca!). It was AWESOME!!

Once we got it in the water, and got the trolling motor up and running, we were in business. Trolling motors are pretty slow, by definition, but they are more than strong enough to propel the canoe around! We maneuvered all around the 80-something-acre pond, and it was definitely more fun than paddling! We stopped to fish at a few spots. We also found the huge rope swing that someone put up, including a whole series of wooden platforms built between the trees to get up to said rope swing. We even watched a few young guys swing off of it and splash into the water! And then, later, we found a little peninsula where there was a clearing-- perfect to put down a picnic blanket and have some lunch! So we might do that some time. The rest of the coastline is very thickly wooded, so it was surprising to find a spot that was clear like that!

Anyway, we were out there for a few hours, and had a fantastic time. What a fun new toy we have! We also never realized what a busy lake this particular one is. It's the only one in town that allows larger motors, so it is quite the recreational hot spot. There were bigger boats, jet skis, water skiers, etc. all taking advantage of the warm, sunny day. It was the place to be, apparently! The trolling motor is small enough that we are allowed to go on lots of other lakes, which is part of the reason we got that instead of something larger. Still, it was so much fun to put-put around this big old lake, fishing in the shady spots. Next time, we might even bring bait! haha!

And without further ado: pictures! The canoe still needs a name. We are open to suggestions! :)

And, proof I was there... haha! Someone had to take the pictures!
