Turkey Day

We are home! After driving to/from Napa earlier this week, and then driving to/from North Hollywood yesterday, I'd say I'm pretty much sick of being in the car. Now it's time to stay home, get out the Christmas decorations, and help Gus with his various home improvement projects (he's got quite the To Do list for the weekend). Hooray for being home!!

We did have a lovely Thanksgiving, though. We spent the afternoon at the home of Nikos' godparents (our wedding sponsors) up in North Hollywood. So it was their family, Gus' family, two other families, a few "Thanksgiving orphans" and us-- seventeen people in all. Last time we had Thanksgiving with them, the drive took us somewhere between four and five hours (it should be about two hours). So we were prepared this time, and decided to make the drive in two chunks: from San Diego to Orange County (Gus' parents' house) during Nikos' morning nap, and from Orange County to North Hollywood during the afternoon nap. Shockingly, we ran into very little traffic, and the overall drive time was about two-and-a-half hours! What's the deal with that??

As a result, Nikos' afternoon nap ended up being shortened quite a bit, and he was in a semi-cranky mood for a bit (the big crowd didn't help). Eventually, he warmed up, though, and was highly entertaining! He showed everyone how he can say "doggy," and made some funny sounds with his lips (cracking himself up). He also ate a TON of food... Turkey, mashed potatoes (a lot!), ham, tiropitas (cheese turnovers), apple pie, ice cream... you name it! He was quite a little piglet! When bedtime came, we put him down in the pack-n-play in one of the bedrooms, and he conked out right away. We socialized for a bit, then transferred him to the car and made the long drive home. We ended up getting home around 11pm, and I think I fell asleep as soon as I hit the sheets!

Anyway, it was a nice day, but I am glad the driving is done. It sure is a big change from last year, when Nikos was just a little one-month-old blob! :)
