Timber!!

Well, we took the first step today: the trees are gone! While a part of me feels sad about cutting down trees in general, a bigger part of me is glad that the eyesores are finally gone so we can landscape the way we always wanted. Right now, the crew is out feeding the tall cypresses into the chipper/shredder. Just a little while ago, this was what we saw out in front of the garage:

As you can see, the yard currently looks like a war zone. But that's okay! They are going to start grinding down the stumps, soon, so that they are 10 inches below ground level. Then we'll fill in the holes, get some grass seed on there, and plant a new tree (a fruitless plum) in the center of the lawn. Tomorrow, we're replacing the front door (we bought it yesterday). And within the next few weeks, we'll have the entire house painted. YAY!
